The 9m fall only flows during rain. The surrounding area is home to deer and rare species of wild fowl. Above the fall is the 4774-hectare Wevtenne Forest Reserve of Ella Ihatte.
Situated 28km from Wellawaya town but closer to the smaller town of Ella in the Badulla District, the fall can be reached in any vehicle. The Ella rest-house is 6km away.
