Flowing
down 30m and over a vast expanse of rocks 2m wide, the source of the
fall is an aquifer. Except during times of severe drought, the flow
of water is constant. Folklore has it that a giant cyclops, named Kanna
Badda (hence the fall’s name), lived nearby who stole to make
his living. One day the villagers spotted him and gave chase. In order
to escape, the giant is said to have run into a cave at the fall and
pulled a stone across the entrance, where it has remained ever since.
Along the
road between Ratnapura and Deniyaya, the fall is 2km from the village
of Nedola.
