Muwapitiya Tempita Viharaya

Muwapitiya Viharaya from the back |
An Archaeology Department Board points to the turn off to the Muwapitiya tempita Vihara, a short distance before reaching the Rambukkana town along the Kegalle road. If you are for a quiet setting in a pleasant environment you will definitely appreciate this little shrine.
It is a traditional- Tampita Vihara building - quiet and small and it stands on 13 stone pillars about 2 feet above the ground. The shrine room is constructed on a wooden deck and surrounded by a narrow verandah, which is broader in the front.
The entrance to the shrine is typically by a short wooden stairway . The entrance doorway is richly decorated with sculptures and paintings and inside the tiny shrine room are many images including a seated Buddha figure. The boarded ceiling is also richly painted. The front of the vihara appears to have been renovated.
